Covid-19 exposed just how vulnerable the healthcare industry is in the United States. Additionally, the lockdowns that Covid introduced revealed how imperative it is that everyone has a clear understanding of how they can maintain their health. 


While people did their part and found themselves spending more time at home than ever before it became apparent that the feeling of uncertainty and fear were universal. No one knew what the future would look like or if we’d ever see an end to the spread of the new and scary illness. It was a frightening time for everyone, however, many of us realized just how important it is to make sure that we’re spending time on revitalizing our health- and more than that, our energy, focus, and purpose in everyday life.


There are still a myriad of ways that everyone can become more adaptable to the changes that were put upon us during the lockdown. Whatever illness or obstacle that you may be dealing with, it is a challenge that can be worked on, alleviated, or improved upon. 


The future is healthy! ….but we still have a long way to go. 


While there are now gene therapies that can not only treat serious conditions such as sickle cell disease or cancer but possibly cure them, there is also a dire lack of access to basic medical care. Despite all of the advances in healthcare technology, there is still a real lack of empathy in the system. Yes, the future of healthcare is already upon us, however, unevenly it is distributed.


Perhaps, the biggest lesson from the pandemic is that health inequity is a global issue. Collective action must be taken so that better treatments can be introduced to the masses. I know that I am not alone in my desire to start a powerful conversation about moving forward in good health and well-being. The first step is to begin to think and act differently around the subject of health. 


Healthcare can be a truly hot topic, but there are so many ways to navigate the conversation without being offensive or leaving groups of people out of the discussion. The health of our mindset and mentality is vital to the rest of our overall being. This is particularly true for people living with chronic illnesses, although it can be incredibly difficult to keep a positive attitude while living with pain and discomfort.


So what can we do?


To begin with, alternative care issues must be addressed. There is a real need for more advocacy programs and better ways of getting the necessary information to the people who need it most.

As more and more technology rolls out and more people advocate for empathy, information, and transparency in the healthcare industry we will be better equipped to adapt new treatments and find the best healthcare providers for our needs. Whether it’s delivering medicine by drone or introducing telehealth services to the most vulnerable in rural areas, we can’t take our foot off the gas in continuing to find what’s working and increase that infrastructure.


The future is here, and it’s only going to get healthier.
